Tunes Times Tuesday: Modest Mouse In Missoula – Yeeeeeeeeeah!!!

Tomorrow I am going to Big Sky Brewery to see Modest Mouse live!!!! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!!! Muah ha ha ha.. I’m supercali duper fragilisticexpialidocious uber excited (could you tell?)!

I have loved Modest Mouse ever since high-school, and they come to Montana a lot, but I have never gotten the chance to see them live.  Not only do I get to see one of my favorite bands ever, I also get to see them with one of my favorite person’s ever – one of my sisters’.  I’m sure there will be plenty of good friends there as well.  Why do I think that?.. Well, because it’s Modest Mouse.  I don’t think I have a single close friend who doesn’t enjoy listening to Modest Mouse.

I think Modest Mouse is probably the 1st indie band I ever liked.  Before boarding school I was more into the punk and goth scene.  Then I met a cute boy in boarding school who always played Modest Mouse on his guitar.  I instantly fell in love… with the band, not the boy… I swear.  I bought my first Modest Mouse cd – The Moon and Antarctica.  I would listen to it whenever I was upset or sick.  I bought some of their older albums later on and just will always be a fan.

Naturally, with it coming up tomorrow, I am going to share a few of my favorites:

Tunes Time Tuesdays: It’s A Pirates Life For Me!

Pirates! Yarr!

You know, I have always been a person who strongly believes in good form. What do I mean by good form? I mean to know what you truly believe in and not letting anything get in the way to find your truth. I mean knowing what is real and what might be a trick of the mind. Giving into instinct and doing what it takes to be honorable in time without pride taking over instead of blindly doing what you are told and following what others order is good form.

Making my own treasure maps. It’s something I will do for my son and I for fun. It requires skills, technical strategies, and time to afford the kind of heart it takes to be the kind of Pirate I talk of.

To the naked eye a pirate is a traitor, a thief, a nuisance. Yo ho, a pirate is so much more…

What it means to be a pirate is honor. Stealing money only from the richest to bury their burdens forever. Rebelling against evil forces. Taking a stand to the misled. Leading a crew into the unknown seeking forgiveness without regret. They truly are my heros.

The Last Saskatchewan Pirate: The Arrogant Worms

Then I thought, who gives a damn if all the jobs are gone?
I’m gonna be a PIRATE on the river Saskatchewan!

And it’s a heave-ho, hi-ho, comin’ down the plains
Stealin’ wheat and barley and all the other grains
It’s a ho-hey, hi-hey farmers bar yer doors
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina’s mighty shores

Well, you’d think the local farmers would know that I’m at large
But just the other day I found an unprotected barge
I snuck up right behind them and they were none the wiser,
I rammed their ship and sank it and I stole their fertilizer!

The Lincoln Park Pirates: Steve Goodman

To me, way, hey, tow them away,
The Lincoln Park Pirates are we,
>From Wilmette to Gary, there’s nothin’ so hairy
And we always collect our fee!
So it’s way, hey, tow ’em away,
We plunder the streets of your town,
Be it Edsel or Chevy, there’s no car too heavy,
And no one can make us shut down.

We break into cars when we gotta,
With hammer and pickaxe and saw;
And they said this garage had no license;
But little care I for the law!
Our drivers are friendly and courteous;
Their good manners you always will get;
‘Cause they all are recent graduates
Of the charm school in Joliet

The Elegant Captain Hook

Crook, Crook, Crickety-Crockity-
The Crock is after Captain-

As a special offer for today,
I’ll tell you what I’ll do.
All those who sign without delay!
Will get a free tatoo.
Why, it’s like money in the bank
C’mon, join up, and I’ll be frank:
Unless you do, you’ll walk the plank!

The choice is up to you
The choice is up to you

The Jolly Sailor Bold [Mermaid Song]

My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold,
There is nothing that can console me but my jolly sailor bold.

Come all you pretty fair maids, whoever you may be
Who love a jolly sailor bold that ploughs the raging sea.

My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold,
There is nothing that can console me but my jolly sailor bold.

My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold,
There is nothing that can console me but my jolly sailor bold

Jolly Roger: Roger Mcguinn

Now a gleam came into the Captain’s eyes
As he spied an English clipper
“She looks the perfect shape and size
Let’s all aboard and strip her”
[ Lyrics from: ]
We fired a shot across her bow
And eased ourselves beside her
With our keels as close as she’d allow
We swung from the deck to ride her
Pull away, me lads o’ the Cardiff Rose
And hoist the Jolly Roger

Up she stumbles and starts to pitch
And signals for assistance
We tightened our hold another hitch
And ended her resistance

Drink Up: Jason Webley

A toast to Mary,
A girl I once loved,
Oh Lord, why do things have to die?
If drinking beer,
Could bring her back here,
I’d drink the damn place dry,
Yes, I’d drink the damn place dry!

Here’s to the old house,
On Lily Pond Lane,
And the room where y boots used to rest.
One day I gave
The foundation a shake,
But my home did not pass the test,
No my home did not pass the test.

The Mariner’s Revenge Song: The Decemberists

We are two mariners
Our ship’s sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
It’s ribs are ceiling beams
It’s guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill

You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you, a lad of eighteen
But, I remember you
And I will relate to you
How our histories interweave
At the time you were
A rake and a roustabout
Spending all your money
On the whores and hounds
(oh, oh)

Friggin’ in the Riggin’: the Sex Pistols

It was on the good ship Venus
By Christ, ya shoulda seen us
The figurehead was a whore in bed
And the mast, a mammoth penis

The Captain of this lugger
He was a dirty bugger
He wasn’t fit to shovel shit
From one place to another

Friggin’ in the riggin’
Friggin’ in the riggin’
Friggin’ in the riggin’
There was fuck all else to do

Salty Dog: Flogging Molly

Anarchy, the scourge of every sea
The Antichrist aboard a rig
With us your cutthroat thieves
The ship went down we all near drowned
Ya stood there on the deck
Till the Spanish came and flogged yer arse
And dragged you from the wreck

They threw a rope around yer neck
To watch you dance the jig of death
Then left ya for the starvin’ crows
Hoverin’ like hungry whores
One flew down plucked out yer eye
The other he had in his sights
Ya snarled at him, said leave me be
I need the bugger so I can see

Keel hauled: Alestorm

My friends I stand before you
To tell a truth most dire
There lurks a traitor in our midst
Who hath invoked the captain’s ire

He don’t deserve no mercy
We ought to shoot him with a gun
But I am not an evil man
So first let’s have a little fun

We’ll tie that scoundrel to a rope
And throw him overboard
Drag him underneath the ship
A terrifying deadly trip

Shipwrecked: Alestorm

Hey! you’re banjaxed!
Hey! you’re screwed!
And death is coming for you!
Trapped on an island lost at sea!
Shipwrecked your destiny!

On the 16th night at sea
In the depths of toil and misery
We struck a hidden reef
And our ship began to sink beneath

I grabbed some drifting wood
And held on as long as I could
‘Til abandoned on a desert isle
Now stuck here ’til the day I die

Professor Booty: Beastie Boys

So many wack M.C.’s You get the T.V. bozack
Ain’t even gonna call out your names ‘Cause you’re so wack
But one big oaf whose faker than plastic
A dictionary definition of the word spastic
You should have never started something That you couldn’t finish
‘Cause writin’ rhymes to me Is like Popeye to spinach
I’m bad ass move your fat ass ‘Cause you’re wack son
Dancin’ around like you think you’re Janet Jackson
Thought you could walk on me To get some ground to walk on
I’ll put the rug out under your ass As I talk on
I’ll take you out like a sniper on a roof
Like an M.C. at the fever in the D.J. booth
With your headphones strapped You’re rockin’ rewind pause
Tryin’ to figure out what you can do to go for yours
But like the pencil to the paper I got more to come
One after another you can all get some
So you getter take your time And meditate on your rhyme
‘Cause your shit’ll be stinking When I go for mine
And that’s right y’all don’t get uptight y’all
You can’t say shit Because you’re biting what I write y’all
And that’s wrong y’all over the long haul
You can’t cut the mustard When you’re fronting it all

Tunes Times Tuesdays: Brantley Gilbert…

is playing a concert in Butte, America on Tuesday. I have never been much of a country fan myself (I prefer heavier stuff) but I am going. Simply because this band reminds me of someone I care a lot about who has passed… the actual band and pretty much every song performed.

Tunes Times Tuesdays: Broken and Depressed

Some days -weeks, even months- it seems that no matter how much good I surround myself with, I am still a broken China doll and life seems like a never-ending cloud of doom. When I feel this way, instead of pushing those feelings away I try to embrace it by listening to musicians that can relate for awhile and then watching a romantic comedy or spoof horror movie (last night I watched Hansel and Gretal Get Baked on Netflix… it was kind of weird and made my life seem somewhat better). I think that it is important that I try to understand what makes me so upset and focus on it until a ray of hope can shine through. If I don’t cope with it, then it just sits in the back of my mind dragging me down like a mindless zombie for days-on-end. I was kind of in a real down place last week and couldn’t find the time to make my music list… even if nobody checks it out ha! I’ll try my best to do it for myself anyways. These are a few songs I have heard the last couple of days that I somewhat relate with, at least the philosophical place I am at right now anyways…

Angus and Julia Stone – I’m Not Yours

Florenence and the Machine – Blinding

Birdie – Skinny Love

Augustana – Sweet and Low

Lissie – Go Your Own Way

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals – Stars

Goodnight, Finny

Tunes Times Tuesday’s #3: Civil Unrest Tour

This last Wednesday I was lucky enough to attend the Civil Unrest Tour in Butte with a couple of my greatest friends. Thira, Smile Empty Soul, Dope, Otep, and Wayne Static of Static-X all delivered a mind-blowing musical presentation that melted all of our faces off and got the hearts pumping enough to even dance. It was a blast! I am having metal music concert nostalgia so I decided to refresh my memory by dedicating this Tunes Times Tuesday to the tour. \m/ Rock on, my friends! \m/

I’ll begin with the 1st band that I saw… Thira! They are Industrial Groove Metal, but they reminded me of aliens and time-travel! 😉

I got to take a picture with the drummer, Digg.

Drummer of Thira

Drummer of Thira

Thira – To Fracture

I will climb out of this,

These words fall flat

Here I am again,

Broken apart in front of reason

Set in these ways,

Bent bones draped in flesh,

Grasping but never reaching it

Thira – Grasping at Straws

This denial is the only thing steady enough to hold onto. Close, quickest to reach, keeping safe and the same. But only shreds remain. This shroud is tearing, slipping through these fingers. Aching hands burn too frozen to release this. They won’t tighten. They can’t hold onto these lies anymore. Now offered only fleeting glimpses of the once impenetrable barrier- a shield against this truth, torn apart by mistakes ignored. This denial is now no longer strong enough to hold onto. It drifts away with all that was truth before this fall. These illusions are tearing themselves apart, but are only essential to themselves. This hell, this is borne from these facades. They are borne from us.

Thira live at the Civil Unrest Tour

Next was Smile Empty Soul! Skater boys!

We got a picture with the whole band!

Just us and the band!

Just us and the band!

Smile Empty Soul – Bottom of a Bottle

Been scared and lonely
I’ve asked myself is something wrong with you
My girlfriend told me
I need some time alone to deal with issues

But something makes me carry on
It’s difficult to understand
Why I always wanna fly

I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
I do it for the love
That I get from the bottom of a bottle

Smile Empty Soul – Nowhere Kids

we are the people that you hate
we are the bastards that you created (the fucking bastards that you created)
a generation with no place
a generation of all your sons and daughters

and what did you expect … a perfect child
raised by tv sets … abandoned every mile
we never get respect … never a fair trial
no one gives a shit … as long as we smile
Smile Empty Soul – Chemicals
Every time I see your face
I’m leaving with a bitter taste my friend
And every time I hear your voice
You’re leaving me with little choice my friendBut there ain’t nothing left here for you to say, you shut your mouth
I’m gonna put a bullet into your brain and shut you down
When there ain’t nothing left here for you to say, I shut you out
Another side effect of the chemicals I take
DOPE! they sure sent me through a time-warp…
Dope performing

Dope performing

dope – everything sucks

If somebody’s askin I’ve gone away
Yeah somebody’s packin and gone today
The summer was lovely and I enjoyed my stay
Maybe I’ll be back one day
Sorry to hurry but I’ll miss my plane

Don’t worry about me I’ll be okay
See ya the next time, maybe I’ll stop by
Maybe, Well, I’ll try
Hopefully but I guess
I never cared that much
I never kept in touch
And most of all what really sucks is
Everything and all of us

dope – debonaire

I don’t need diamond rings or high priced suits that shine
Limousines and flashy things or ancient bottled wine
Designer names and lavish things and million dollar hair
Bonny Dames without a brain I never really cared
I dont care nothin about it wow yeah
I dont care for glitzy things or a fancy neighborhood
Glamor games or plastic fame or the king of Hollywood
Dazzling flamboyant things or a top hat on my head
Or modeling for magazines and to be a debonaire
I dont care nothing about it wow yeah

dope – bitch

There’s something about the way we slide
There’s something about this psycho ride
There’s something about the things we do
Something’s got me and I just can’t seem to choose
I want you
I hate you
The one I love I hate
But the sex is great
The one I love I hate
So I contemplate
The one I love I hate
But the sex is great

The biggest reason we went was Otep, and she was fantastic!

Otep signing Brit's arm

Otep signing Brit’s arm

Otep – Ghost Flowers

She’s a killer,
She’s a keeper.
Well I’m a blurr
in your vision,
Was it just
a poor decision?

Cut me open
With percision,
And my finger,
Thee incision.
Tell me what have I done…
Quit pro quo
To watch you lose

Otep – Confrontation

My religion of resistance
Challenging everything

Radicals & dissidents
Of creativity

We are the children
Of the siege you hide
In this rich man’s war
Where the poor just die

More deception & greed
More wars & disease

More lies from the hive mind
That seek to deceive

A weak nation of need
Like silent thieves in the night

Its a rich man’s war
But it’s the poor that die

Otep – Breed (Nirvana cover)

I don’t care
I don’t care
I don’t care
I don’t care
I don’t care
Care if it’s old
I don’t mind
I don’t mind
I don’t mind
I don’t mind
I don’t mind
Mind, I don’t have a mind
Get away
Get away
Get away
Get away
Away, away from your home
I’m afraid
I’m afraid
I’m afraid
I’m afraid
Afraid, afraid of a ghost

Even if you have
Even if you need
I don’t mean to stare
We don’t have to breed
We can plant a house
We can build a tree
I don’t even care
We could have all three
She said
She said
She said
She said
She said
She said
She said
She said

And finally, Wayne Static of Static-X.. who was unreal..

Bass guitarist for Wayne Static

Bass guitarist for Wayne Static

Wayne Static – She

I’m not scared
Always be prepared
Living life like a scarecrow
There’s no time for sleep
And I’m not scarred
Though peeling away
Peeling away all the layers
This is the real me
This is the real me

Wayne Static – Get It Together

End of night
The beginning
This infernal
Trade it all
Do it over so forgetful
See the light
It all happens for a reason
Time to kill this unending season
There’s no lying
Deepest darkest
I’m accepting it’s the hardest
Take my body
Take away the hesitation
Take away the sensation

and to throwback a bit… Static-X – Not Meant For Me

I’m trapped in this world
Lonely and fading
Heartbroke and waiting
For you to come
We are stuck in this world
That’s not meant for me
For me

So, what you got
One last shot
It seems to me
That you’re not needed
Come on
It’s killing me, let’s see
You got the gall
Come take it all

Overall the show was a success.. I don’t go to many metal shows, I always seem to have a ton of fun when I do though. Back in November I got to see Rob Zombie and KORN in Butte as well. I might as well throw in a few songs from them! XD

Rob Zombie in Butte!

Rob Zombie in Butte!

Rob Zombie – Lords of Salem

I speak the truth,
I dare not tell a lie,
One child is in fits,
The other child dies,
Now the yellow bird sits upon her finger,
The yellow bird a specter lost to linger,

God Hates – The Lords of Salem,
No can ever save them,
God Hates – The Lords of Salem,
No one can destroy them,

Rob Zombie – Living Dead Girl

(What are you thinking about)
(What are you thinking about)

Rage in the cage
And piss upon the stage
There’s only one sure way
To bring the giant down
Defunct the strings
Of cemetery things
With one flat foot
On the devil’s wing

Rob Zombie – Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown

Is there life beyond what you know?
Hallucination thrives on my stereo
Astonishing Skeptics
Wasted Youth
She’s an Angel of Odd in her Birthday Suit

Turn it up turn it up turn it up
Oh Yeah

We listen to the Radio – Dead Radio
We listen to the Radio – Dead Radio

Ending this music blog with some Korn this week…

KORN in Butte!

KORN in Butte!

korn – freak on a leash

Something takes a part of me.
Something lost and never seen.
Everytime I start to believe,
Something’s raped and taken from me… from me.
Life’s got to always be messing with me. (You wanna see the light)
Can’t they chill and let me be free? (So do I)
Can’t I take away all this pain. (You wanna see the light)
I try to every night, all in vain… in vain.
Sometimes I cannot take this place.
Sometimes it’s my life I can’t taste.
Sometimes I cannot feel my face.
You’ll never see me fall from grace
Something takes a part of me.
You and I were meant to be.
A cheap fuck for me to lay
Something takes a part of me.
Feeling like a freak on a leash. (You wanna see the light)
Feeling like I have no release. (So do I)
How many times have I felt diseased? (You wanna see the light)
Nothing in my life is free… is free

korn ft. skrillex – get up (sucker punch)

I, I am clearly broken and no one knows what to do
Pieces of the puzzle don’t fit, so, I pound them into you
Itching is the pulse inside
Creeping out to come alive
It’s just doing what it’s gonna do

Times are looking grim these days
Holding on to everything
It’s hard to draw the line

korn – never never

I don’t ever wanna have to try.
Though I lie, It never flies.
I don’t ever wanna have to die.
But deep inside, The death it hides.
And I never wanna clarify and justify so I run and hide.
And I never wanna signify so I pacify all the hate inside.

Signing out – Ari

P.S. Here is an article Smile Empty Soul shared on there Facebook that describes the show in Butte pretty well. Only minus Otep and this was when the tour hit Cali. 5/23

Tunes Times Tuesday’s 2: Runaway

Have you ever woke up with an overwhelming sensation of packing up just the essentials and running away? Wanting to leave everything behind and start over somewhere new? For whatever reason – someone or something from your past, present, or even your future – it’s got your thoughts on the run. Over the last week I have found some songs that relate to this feeling.

I’ll start with the classics..

Bob Marley – Running Away

I’ve got to protect my life, (running away)
And I don’t want to live with no strife. (running away)
It is better to live on the housetop (running away)
Than to live in a house full of confusion. (running away)
So, I made my decision and I left ya; (running away)
Now you comin’ to tell me (running away)
That I’m runnin’ away. (running away)
But it’s not true, (running away)
I am not runnin’ away. (running away)

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Runnin’ Down A Dream

I rolled on as the sky grew dark
I put the pedal down to make some time
There’s something good waitin’ down this road
I’m pickin’ up whatever’s mine

Yeah runnin’ down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin’ on a mystery, goin’ wherever it leads
Runnin’ down a dream

Pink Floyd – Run Like Hell

Run, run, run, run [repeat line four times]
You better run all day
And run all night
And keep your dirty feelings
Deep inside. And if your
Takin’ your girlfriend
Out tonight
You better park the car
Well out of sight
‘Cos if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks
They’re gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box
You better run
And the song that inspired this weeks theme is Soul Asylum – Runaway Train posted by
bought a ticket for a runaway train
like a madman laughing at the rain
little out of touch, little insane
it’s just easier than dealing with the painrunaway train, never goin’ back
wrong way on a one-way track
seems like i should be getting somewhere
somehow i’m neither here nor there

runaway train, never comin’ back
runaway train, tearin’ up the track
runaway train, burnin’ in my veins
i run away but it always seems the same
